Since this thread has proven so popular for a couple of you, I will add this.
Whenever I spot these tight points in a season a friend always says but if you multiply that gap over the course of the season you get a reasonable gap at the end.
If we multiplied that set over the other 2/3rds of the season, top would be 3 points clear of second while the second promotion place would be decided on goal difference from all of 2nd to 5th. Meanwhile, 5th would be 3 points clear of 6th who would get into the play-offs on goal difference too.
Of course, that isn't going to happen but I just find it interesting how sometimes a league seems crazy close at certain points. It would be very funny if that league did finish with the top 7 all on the same points with them lot in 7th on goal difference! |  |
