Does anyone want to read about the history of goal posts? 10:44 - Jun 10 with 439 viewsWeWereZombies

If so this is the website for you:

https://gdfra.org.au/history_of_goalposts.htm

{found this when I was trying to find a term I have heard in Scottish football commentary for the meeting point of goal post and crossbar in response to a post on the 'Schemer' thread, still not found or recollected the word but it is one of those hoity toity expressions Scots use to show their superior knowledge of English.}

Hmmm, no mention of jumpers, disappointed. Especially since the link was slightly wrong.

Apologies - link now corrected

As a compensation please find a link to a more comprehensive, and expansive, alternative to that site:

Excuse me, but if I am any Only Fools character then it must be Rodders for his lanky frame. David Jason would come up to about my crotch in height...

Please do let us know this technical term once you've found and confirmed it's not just some nonsense the Scots make up when they're pasht.

Trigger is also lanky...

Yet another site about goalposts:

http://www.goalkeepersaredifferent.com/keepers/inthenet.html

'Back in 1974, Athlone goalkeeper Mick O'Brien broke his crossbar not once but twice during a FAI Cup semi-final against Finn Harps at Oriel Park. After taking 15 minutes to repair the first break, the game continued only for the bar to come crashing down again after O'Brien attempted to mend it further after noticing it was coming loose once again three minutes from time. However the referee took exception to the goalkeeper clambering over the woodwork and sent him off. Athlone lost the game 5-0.'
