Completely agree, although after watching that Gold Rush series on the BBC recently the pressure wasn't just from the public, but UK Sport and the British Olympic Committee too. No results = zero funding. A huge burden to carry on young shoulders and he's finally reached his Olympic dream, really pleased for him. Must make all the hard work and sacrifices he's gone through over the years worthwhile. [Post edited 26 Jul 2021 10:04]

Anyone else think Russia’s doping ‘ban’ is a bit of a joke? There doesn’t seem to be much of a shortage of them competing as ‘Russian Olympic Committee’. All the ban seems to entail is no Russian flag, different logo on uniforms which are still in a very Russian colour scheme, and no anthem played for gold medal winners. I can’t imagine it’s gone down too well with other countries and competitors |  | | |

I'm really pleased for Tom Daley. It seemed that he was another of those who had a disproportionate amount of media attention/distraction/pressure who do extremely well at the World Championship or pro series level and then don't quite make it at the Olympics (eg Paula Radcliffe, Beth Tweddle) for whatever reason and that is how the public then sees them.
It had looked like his Bronze was his redemption/consolation prize, so to come back (relatively unhyped, this time) and do this is amazing. | | | |
