All this talk of gelling ... 18:20 - Aug 22 with 1065 views | Vic | I’m not sure that the goals we gave them yesterday were anything to do with us not gelling. They were just basic errors. Cook is being very generous when he says we have to learn from our mistakes - both Evans and Wolf are experienced enough not to need to learn about this sort of thing.

I do think most of the rest this season were organisational though, no-one quite comfortable with what they are meant to do off the ball. Also the switch to bring Carroll on left Harper in particular looking lost A week with no match should help improve some of those parts.

It’s interesting how we see things isn’t it! Not sure where you were sitting but I was in SAR and me and my mate we saying to each other that there seemed no ‘out’ ball for the defenders - the result was repeated passing side ways across the back 4 before eventually a long diagonal ball was launched. Evans and Harper were very immobile. When Carroll came on he dropped back and was always ready to receive the ball and start forward momentum. I though he really improved things when he came on.

I posted elsewhere, but one of the things I liked about MK yesterday was how their wingbacks were always the out ball. Agree on Carroll in that regard, hints of Magilton albeit only from a cameo, but I think that had an effect on other players that we didn't seem to have prepared for. We hardly got the ball to Edwards late on, nor Dobra in his brief time on the pitch. It still might have worked had we not conceded so soon after going 2-1 up but a bit to work on there.

Also, when he received the ball, the big gap the striker ran into was crazy, that can't happen again, you should never be able to nick a ball from a midfielder and have a free run to the keeper

Agree, our shape when we don't have the ball definitely needs some work, we look a little open to the counter when we lose the ball, possibly not helped by no natural defensive midfielder - Evans and Harper are ball playing midfielders imo. All things we can be addressed on the training field. I tend to agree with the op, doesn't matter how much gelling we do if you central midfielder takes a bad touch followed up with a short back pass straight to the opposition you are always going to struggle.
All this talk of gelling ... on 20:55 - Aug 22 with 778 views | Seablu | ‘Gelling’ has become the new buzzword. L’Oréal are missing a trick here. The new formula ITFC gel. Eagerly anticipated launch in shiny new packaging.. Makes your fingers sticky but ultimately doesn’t work where it’s needed most. Eventually discovered to be nothing more than repackaged Royle jelly without the necessary hold up front. Shelf life of 4 weeks.
All this talk of gelling ... on 21:18 - Aug 22 with 736 views | istanblue | Why is Woolfenden getting stick for the first goal? It was clearly Hladky at fault. If that was Holy, everyone on the forum would be tearing him a new one.

Sadly Wolf miscontrolled the ball and allowed their bloke to steal it and get passed him before he made a lunging tackle which brushed the blokes leg and he threw himself to the ground. IMO it was quite a soft free kick, but not unsurprising. I’ve sadly elsewhere that I think Hladky will be disappointed with himself. His positioning wasn’t quite right and having got his hand to the ball he really should have put it round the post or to the side of the goal.

All this talk of gelling ... on 07:41 - Aug 23 with 571 views | PioneerBlue | I read ‘time to Gel’ as shorthand for team play and sharpness, positions in and out of possession and overall organisation. You could argue time to gel is required most seasons with today’s level of player turnover each summer. Im not sure how much t/o promoted Morecambe, Cheltenham, and MKD and Burton have had but expect it’s not same level as ITFC. These were 2 mistakes IMO on Saturday, linked with early season sharpness which may be being kind. Wolf and Vlad (Wolf needn’t have given that free kick when they have a fk specialist, Vlad starting position for fk). Evans caught in deep position following tactical change). All disappointing, all things you’d rather not happen, this is football, it is not perfect otherwise we’d be premier league.
