When I had Christmas dinner round an older neighbour's house four years back at the time I was close on house bound due to a head injury they served up a pudding that included a layer of blancmange - and what a throwback to childhood.

So when I saw some Pearce Duff's packet blancmange in Asda last year I had to buy a packet or two. Now that I have realised that the use by date is October 2021 I have had to make up one of the packets but I mean, three hours in the fridge to set before it is ready to eat!

However I can now report that it is worth the wait.

I didn't realise they were still going to be honest but ten years ago they released an album called 'Blanc Burn' and four years ago a box set called 'The Blanc Tapes'. Quite the wags for a duo from Harrow Technical College, aren't they?

Blancmange was for the middle classes back in my day. Us council kids had instant whip. Butterscotch instant whip was a thing of beauty.

I didn't realise they were still performing, but looks like they are doing a gig in Liverpool tonight.

Anyway more importantly, was it strawberry flavour?

I always thought it was just 'Blancmage' flavour, was there a choice? Loved it as a kid, had forgotten all about it, need to search some out.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Finally a topic I can sink my teeth into. I bleedin love the stuff.

My grandma in Felixstowe used to make it for me everytime I visited as a kid. She used to set them in various moulds - car, turtle, starfish etc.

When she passed away it was one of my favourite memories of her - she made them without fail everytime I visited.

I was telling my soon to be father-in-law this and he now makes them for me everytime I visit my in-laws. Feels a bit weird as they're all having crumble around me but I appreciate the sentiment. I may have to take my own car shaped mould for him next time as it feels cheating to eat it out of a bowl.

Indeed it is strawberry flavour, thirty five grammes. I got three modest servings out of the last packet and I've got extra milk in for the next packet.
