Pure speculation, having watched the video, but perhaps the back of the seat and headrest took most of the force of the blast (if, say, the device was on the back-seat passenger's lap when it detonated).
Also, it looks as if the front window and maybe a sunroof blew out pretty much instantly, thus reducing the potential for damage from overpressure.
Finally, the fire took hold slowly enough he was able to get out in time.
