The issues that lead to this 09:56 - Dec 6 with 517 views | hype313 | Seem to be the summer transfer window, now we all got excited by the signings and could see all the quality that was brought in, but I do wonder whether this was detrimental to how Cook saw the team shaping, along with the fact that he chose a few players and Ashton chose a few, the Jacobs deal suddenly changing was clearly Ashton's doing and this for me, made me think, this dynamic just wasn't going to work in the long run. We didn't have a clear plan as to how this teams shape would work with the players brought in, Cook wanted players he could trust and had worked with previously, Ashton clearly likes to buy players at a low price with a high ceiling, and for me, this just made the whole dynamics of the team muddled. What's clear going forward is that in this set up we now have with Gamechanger, we need a coach rather than a manager, so that should rule a few out and subsequently a few in. Joe made the point that what Cook signed up for was completely different to what he ended up with, it now seems completely true and it was never going to work, wrong place wrong time. I just hope the old adage of the need to break a few eggs to make an omelette rings true.

Ultimately, having a head coach will bring that in line with the club's structure. I was geniunely gutted Cook had gone as I really wanted it to work for him here but it was the right decision. It is important that the powers that be act quickly now. We need some stability in place before the run of games up to Christmas to keep us in the hunt whilst we come up with a strategy in January.

The latter's talking up of the Celina signing and the likes of Edwards and Harper coming in points to that. I don't have a problem with the head coach model. What's the point in giving all power to a manager who you're going to bin off after 9 months if they're not getting results? Create a structure and a plan, then recruit someone to lead the team within that - makes sense. With Cook already in the door however, I wish we'd have given him more time.

Yep agreed, I think Cook under Evans would have done well, but with the new ownership and structures within that, the old type of Manager was never going to work under these conditions. Sad to see him go, and actually I don't think his reputation has been tarnished by this experience given the complexities around the club in his time, no doubt he will pop up somewhere soon, and good luck to him as he only ever wanted what was best for our club.

Agreed, but on your point about giving power to the manager, this is where the issue lies, it wasn't Gamechanger that gave him that role/power , it was Evans, which is why it was never going to work going forward with the current ownership model.

Yes. Out of all the managers that have departed (particularly in the Evans era) Cook is the one I feel will go and be a success elsewhere.
