FFS, tell them to make sure they actually turn up for their classes, and if there is a reason they can't to actually speak to their tutor about it.

I've been sat here marking work all day, and generally speaking all very good, but the ones with poor attendance records, fk me, awful, awful efforts.

On the flip side, I barely went to lectures and got a first. Mainly by doing my own research on topics outside the syllabus

Im having the opposite issue. My last assignment was handed in on the 9th Dec. We just got our scores back... with the next assignment due in 2 weeks.

I wish our tutor would turn up.

"Mainly by doing my own research on topics outside the syllabus"- yeah, I did that at Uni. Or getting pissed and chasing women as it was called back then!

If I'm honest. I will reply to student emails at 10/11pm if I see them, so long as its a legitimate question and not something they could find out easily themselves.

But, the normal return of work is 20 working days. I assume you wanted your lecturer to work all through Christmas and new year? The return date for 9th December would be about now. It doesn't take 10 minutes to mark a piece of work, try about an hour if we really want to ensure the mark is fair.

I can only apologise that my academic colleague is an utter dick for wanting to spend time at Christmas with their family.
