They played a formation which was basically a V so they “ gave” us all that space to pitta patta the ball around in …. But there was also space in each of the flanks on the outside of that V which all we needed to do ( and finally stated too in the second half), was to hit an EARLY long pass into for Burns snd Thomas to run onto .

We played with 1 up front ( if Chaplin and Celina were meant to create a 3 it didn’t work), and suspect because of Wednesday’s V line up that was because we were outnumbered.

McKenna was out thought tactically yesterday . We also made 5 changes . I get the need in part to cover for injuries and suspensions . But that starting front three didn’t work at Wimbledon in the first half so why play it against better opposition?

Sometimes continuity by not making changes is the better way forward .

I can remember Keane constantly changing our team for every game . We are NOT Man Utd , and a squad rotation doesn’t work ( as Lambert found out). The players aren’t good enough in depth. Pick your best / strongest team and stick with it , this is League One not bloody Champions League!

the fault there is in imagining this is some kind of cricket field placings

watch the goal and freeze the place on about 8 secs, then tell me what 'formation' the players are in - none, as they are not the red arrows

their position is determined by the play, where the ball is and where the opposition is

yesterday we were beaten to the ball time and time again, once we do have the ball there is a lack of urgency about getting the ball forward, our dead ball play is woeful, no shots on target - that is down to the players commitment and endeavour, not where they are located in relation to each other

Agree with not changing the team and rotating every game , as you say we are not Man Utd.

Over the past few years we have tried this and it has failed every time. Look at the cup game changes we make

Our squad players are not good enough to be adequate stand ins.
Our first team are not even top of the table playing every week, so dropping some of those does not help the quest to be top 6.

Not sure I fully agree on 11:14 - Jan 30 with 648 viewsunstableblue

You’re right about the fact there was a better way to feed Burns and Thompson.

But the main issue was player performance.

5 or 6 players had 4/10 players… maybe more.

Players were loose and error strewn, we basically beat ourselves. It was all a bit headless.

There was a lack of sharpness which led to gifting possession in key areas to hit them chances.

Burns was really poor yesterday, best example being a complete lack of track back to stop their goal.

And critically players were completely unadventurous, in the last 10 mins players carried the ball and broke lines and we opened up Weds easily.

But I should add it was a rubbish game played in midfield.

As a club we have a massive issue in not turning up for big games… I though that was changing with the recent Sunderland and Wycombe home performances, but we can’t seem to shake it.

MK Dons is a big change to show some real desire; and the return of Morsy should be huge, we do missed him yesterday.

We have to win the next three, which includes MK or the season is over.

That front 3 wasn’t the front 3 that played the first half against Wimbledon.

Don’t think it was a case of Darren Moore out thinking McKenna, more that we had too many individuals not performing and having scored an early goal (against the run of play) they were able to be compact and hit on the counter.

He had to start the midfield he did then it was a case of picking the attacking players he wanted. Given that selection was successful against Accrington there was sense to pick it again but this time the players weren’t on it as well. He tried changing it in the 2nd half but the players that came on didn’t have much of an effect either.

Essentially, we didn’t play very well, Wednesday did and deservedly got the win. It’s annoying but that happens sometimes. It’s a tough job to come into a team struggling for consistency and had lost the knack of finding goals and try and turn them into a team that can hit a major winning streak. 4 wins from 6 isn’t all that bad considering.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
Poll: What is Celina's problem?

Nope

The season is not over until it is mathematically impossible to finish on whatever is needed.

Currently 6th place is on target to finish on 82.4 points

17 games to get another 41 (or so) points. It has taken us 29 games to reach 41 points so far. We have been averaging 1.4 points a game.

We need 2.4 points per game, or put bluntly we can afford to only drop 10 points between now and the end of the season.

With games against Rotherham, Wigan, MK Dons, Oxford and Plymouth it is a tall order. Though it does presume all six will continue picking up points as they have been, which is not certain.
