It’s more like women’s tennis, where the top 6 one year will be completely different the next time you look. The great World Cup performances of past sides such as Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana & Ivory Coast are always pretty much one offs. Yep AFCON can be pretty mad. Egypt won 3 in a row between 2006 and 2010, then didn’t qualify for the next two tournaments. Burkina Faso are probably a team you’d expect to get to the last 16 but no further - probably the equivalent of someone like Poland or Switzerland getting to the semis of the Euros. A bit of a shock but nobody would call you bonkers for predicting them as a dark horse. |  |
