I'm not saying it didn't happen, but that is the kind of military legend-making which goes way back in history (think "Nuts!" at Bastogne, "Merde" from the surrounded Old Guard square at the end of Waterloo and "So much the better, we shall fight in the shade" at Thermopylae).
