Dropped points 13:19 - Feb 26 with 600 viewstractordownsouth

When I listening to the NTT20 preview show yesterday, I was surprised to hear that our record against bottom 8 teams this season is P11, W9 D2 L0.

Obviously that is somewhat skewed by Cheltenham rising up the table recently, but it looks like if he don't make it it will be because we've thrown too many points away against the middle third of the league. The 2 defeats against Bolton and the losses at Charlton, Cheltenham, Accrington and Burton probably being the worst examples.

Although of course, 2 of the 4 points dropped against the relegation-threatened teams came against today's opponents. I think it'll be a lot tougher than some are making out but hopefully a win today, even if it's a scrap.

Although it seems we've been a bit better than in the previous two seasons we've still not been that great against sides in the top 6, Look at our record against the current incumbents:

1. Rotherham = L
2. Wigan = D
3. MK Dons = D,D
4. Oxford = D
5. Plymouth = L
6. Sunderland = L, D

P8 W0 D5 L 3 Pts 5 (from a possible 24)

7. Wycombe = W, W
8. Sheffield Wednesday = D, L

Not great reading for a side with promotion aspirations.

I think it's more the fact that, prior to McKenna, we were pretty crap for all but mid-September to the start of November. So we mainly dropped points against the teams we played then.

It's pretty much why we are poss going into a 4th year at league 1. ( or is it 3 already forgotten)

Under lambert we beat all but not top 10. Under PC barely near anyone and then only those below and so far Under KM again beating those at the bottom and altho we beat Wycombe we then drew to sheff wed and lost to Bolton and still couldn't beat Sunderland.

We can't finish in the top 6 if we don't win any of the games against the 4 we have to play in the top 6 it's as simple as that. This side have got to step up.

a niche perspective

Which, by pure chance, happens to have been a lot of the teams now in mid table.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
