Chatham House Report on Kleptocracy in the UK on 10:41 - Mar 4 with 518 views | Churchman | I would recommend people have a look at this if they have the time. It’s fascinating. It also defines the differences between Kleptocrats and Oligarchs. It’s depressing and scary. It’s little wonder Johnson looks like he’s filled his trousers at any mention of this stuff and is on his knees praying it’s over soon. It isn’t just Russians. Animals from all over over the former Soviet Union and others. No wonder the govt are keen on more deregulation in the city. One of the interesting ways they embed themselves aside from citizenship is donations. Universities here will now take money from anyone, football clubs, charities, hospitals. I also notice the reference to Raab’s £25k present. Raab said that the donor was innocent of the charges he was accused of, but that isn’t true. Regardless, the point is why on earth would you accept donations from people like him? Reputation alone says that’s mad. Something to hide? ‘Owned’? I think we know the answer.

Raab indeed lied when claiming the guy who gave him £25k was cleared on appeal. Am sure he'll get picked up on this over the coming weeks either in parliament or when being interviewed. Why a Tory would lie about the circumstances of how he came to accept the money from a convicted money launderer... Said it a couple of days ago, I think this is the story that will do for Boris rather than partygate...

Has it been revealed whether any oligarchs were at any Downing Street parties, tying the two stories neatly together.

I totally agree. He should have gone many moons ago, along with many others of course, but what underpins this story has far greater impact and importance than being illegally on the lash during lockdown. The trouble is a whole raft of influential, monied people are involved in this and will close ranks so I suspect the lid will be kept on it and while regulations will tighten, deregulation will soon follow. There is far too much money in it for our politicians to want to do anything about it. And once you take a penny from these people, they own you. Interestingly, you can see why Brexit was so important to certain people. Nothing to do with the nonsense arguments laid, but everything to do with creating a perfect haven for the world’s dirty money and dirty people to flow in and through.
