Interesting piece in FT about how far right 12:14 - Sep 30 with 814 views | itfcjoe | Tories have moved economically since Truss came in and how far away they’ve moved away from the British public https://www.ft.com/content/d5f1d564-8c08-4711-b11d-9c6c7759f2b8 On the same economic scale where Truss’s government now scores a 9.4, the average UK voter positions themselves at 3.1 and the average Conservative at 4.2. The Tories have plotted a course to the very edge of the economic map, and when they scan the horizon there is nobody to be seen.

Politically Boris could spread himself out as well which made it sometimes difficult to attack - this is just pure libertarian nonsense and no one wants it

It's beyond unconscionable & it's impossible to imagine how Truss & her Cabinet think this is a good idea. While the cut in the top rate may be a small part of the overall tax cuts, it's what's catching the headlines & I guess at least 90% of voters will think it a bad idea. It also won't have much impact on the economy as the rich have excess income anyway. Coupling this with the less relevant but equally eye-catching end to the cap on bankers' bonuses shows Truss has no idea that she needs to capture middle ground voters if she wants to have a chance in the next election.
