Talking of protests ... 13:11 - Nov 21 with 604 viewsDarth_Koont

Before the tournament, the Iranian team have been supportive of the protests in Iran over women’s rights and the struggle against an oppressive regime.

Hopefully we’ll see that again during the WC. And a famous victory or even a battling draw would give them quite a platform and help protect their status.

So if England lose, at least it might be for the greater good. Much more likely Iran can get a decent result against Wales or USA, of course, but probably nowhere near the same impact as a result.

Be nice to see some do this, but probably be sent off for it.

I hear that Iran did not sing their anthem....very brave.

Gary Lineker pointed that out at half time and then spoke for a few minutes over footage of placards being held up at the match by Iran supporters in support of their women

The Iranian fans booed their national anthem and one of the players supported the protestors fully in a pre-match interview.
