Up for the Cup 12:59 - Dec 29 with 1155 viewsclive_baker

Obviously 2 big league games coming up over the next few days against Pompey and Lincoln, but I'm really looking forward to the FA Cup game next weekend. Rotherham have been to Sheff United and won recently, and drawn with Stoke and Luton. They've also given Burnley and Norwich close games in recent weeks, so it'll be a tough test against a decent Championship side. We've not had a cup run for yonks, I would love us to get through this and into the last 32. You never know where it might take us with a bit of luck and a kind draw or 2. It's a really intriguing tie for me.

This is a great draw for us. It's a draw for the FA Cup purists among us. Hard to predict whether players will be rested (both teams). Obviously, the stronger the team we put out, the better. The days of the Cup being taken as seriously as the League are long gone, but some of us can remember winning the FA Cup. Wigan Athletic won it less than 5 years ago, so, you never know. As in 1978, we would need a very favourable draw, Bristol Rovers at Eastville and then WBA in the semi final come to mind. Even going with 5,000 of us to Watford the last time we made the Fifth Round was pretty exciting (15 or 16 years ago). This season we've had the most favourable FA Cup draw for years, so, long may it continue.

Yeah, we would certainly need a little luck to progress much further but as you say you never know. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we beat Rotherham, and there will be a guaranteed 3 or 4 sides left in it that we would be favourites against, perhaps a couple more if there's an upset or 2.

I don't have hopes of winning the thing but how cool would it be to have a Man United or Chelsea at home in a 5th round or something.

"how cool would it be to have a Man United or Chelsea at home in a 5th round or something."

Not least because the away team gets a bigger ticket allocation, and that generates a whole different atmosphere. Anyone know what the largest ever away support was at Portman Road? (Not counting Celtic for Alan Hunter's testimonial)

I would guess it would Leeds for the game where the record attendance was set, but it wasn’t all ticket so there is no way of knowing.

That’s a good question. Back in the days of terracing, how many did the two away pens in the North hold?

Leeds fans were all over the ground for that match, not just in the North Stand pen.
