Updated attacking vs defending data for League 1 on 14:20 - Jan 12 with 1118 views | ITFC_Forever | When you see how much further on we are on every graph vs. the rest of the league, it underlines the point we haven't been making the most of our dominance. Daft goals conceded and poor refereeing decisions have cost us at least 10-12 points.

But you can't argue with the fact that KM has it right, the approach is working. And the window brings in players that address the issue being a little better at converting our dominance to goals. As I have been saying, no need to change our style or approach - just a smidgen more clinical.

Think we've been top by a fair distance as per their xG table every time they update it which again shows we're doing the right thing generally. Hopefully Hirst and Broadhead will help us get into more positions where we're not in danger of chucking points away if the other team scores at least. Gillingham's standing on the league 2 attacking effectiveness chart is good - really not sure how you manage to be quite so awful in front of goal.

See, I view it the other way. Easier for us to be a little more clinical than shore up the defence, given the way we play.

You could argue it both ways. But certainly the addition of more firepower in Hirst & Broadhead could make the difference if we carry on with the same performances in the second half of the season.

We take a lot of shots to get a goal, and it takes very few shot to score a goal against us. We are dominating in between, no doubt. It seems to me that given how dominant we are in terms of possession and numbers of shots, it's not terribly surprising that it takes comparatively few shots to score against us - teams can hit us on the break when we lose it, and although that happens rarely, and we concede very few shots, when we DO concede shots, we concede lots of goals. I see that as a function of how we play. We need to be scoring more of the chances that we create, it seems to me. I think KMac agrees, given the recruitment so far in the window. Plymouth appear to be almost the opposite - on the expected goals table they almost look like also rans, rather than a teams that's several points clear at the top. They have a great keeper, and they have had some incredible finishing. Let's hope that losing Whittaker will affect part of that equation.

Not sure you’re first paragraph is correct, based on that data we have one of the lower shots per goal rate in the league - we look to be about 9th best? Obviously there is room for improvement but the standout issue looks to be how frequently we concede given the low shots faced, which could be attributed to bad luck but IMO more a result of the way we play and defensive lapses allowing those opportunities to be clear chances, as someone else has alluded in the thread
