McKenna: There's Nothing in the Rulebook About That 21st Jan 2023 22:16
Blues boss Kieran McKenna says Town will get to the truth of the confusion surrounding referee Bobby Madden’s claim he couldn’t abandon and then restage this afternoon’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford once the game had passed the 75-minute mark. 41

But there is EFL precedent for it. From weather postponements to the Battle of Brammall Lane, they carry the result as valid. Precedent becomes ‘case law’ for reasons of fairness. Our company secretary seems to be wrong

That ref had been officiating in the Scottish leagues for 20yrs and this was his first season in the EFL

But both teams had to play in the same conditions?

Oxford were as much a potential victim of the ref decision so on that basis it was entirely fair.

Yes they were but the fact remains both managers wanted the game abandoned when the score was 1-1?…. The ref decided to play in. Any official with half a brain would have the decision to abandon at that moment . He didn’t. So someone was going to become a victim of the conditions , and as usual we get no “ luck”.

Oxford had been mid-table & unlikely to go either up or down this season, they knew the outcome would affect them far less than us, they had far less reason to care that carrying on was a gamble.

Poll: Town's most cultured left foot ever?
