Been sorting out a few things for my father-in-law, who is currently struggling with Parkinsons and a broken hip. And looking through his finances, I've been reminded how important it is to check out all those recurring costs, and make sure you're getting the best deals.

i.e home insurance, car insurance, phone/broadband/tv package, etc etc.

These firms punish those who don't make a fuss, so make sure you're taking advantage of any offers that are around.

Just in a couple of hours over the weekend, we dropped his car insurance by about 50%, Virgin media offered a new package about 60% cheaper than he was already paying. Didn't even have to call up, was accessible from the website. Probably saved about £600 a year.

There are a few apps you can use now that look at your direct debits and give you suggestions on where you can save money by switching. Plum is pretty good.

My mum was paying near £100 for SD Sky TV with Sports and Movies which she never watched and about £60 a month for Broadband and calls.

Moved her over to Freesat and changed Broadband provider sharpish.
