I read something from a Town fan who said an MK steward told him that there were 7000 Ipswich fans and 5000 MK fans at the match.

That’ll be ST holders not turning up. It’s not an attendance figure, it’s a tickets sold figure. Misleading but it’s not being massaged, as that’s the standard way to show ‘attendances’. [Post edited 27 Feb 2023 9:17]
