Who was it that recommended Marrakesh to me? 09:52 - Mar 15 with 885 viewsGlasgowBlue

We are going in Sunday. Booked a ballon ride, would be grateful for feedback on anything else worth doing or seeing whilst there.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Think I recommended Fez. Perhaps ask the ballon pilot to take you to Fez, spend the day in the Medina there. You won't regret it

Marrakesh is world famous for its market/bazaar/souk.
Don't buy anything made from camel skin. It smells, and even after 2 years the smell won't have gone away.

Morocco is also famous for its hash.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

I was speaking from experience, but as that experience comes from the 1970's I guess things have changed somewhat.

From the 70,s I imagine that was wild enough? I actually never been to Marrakesh, but I spent a good bit of time in Chefchouen in the 90,s. I'm not sure about now, but you use to have to pass through a army checkpoint on your way up to it but once passed that it you were in serious quality hashish country

First night was in Tangiers - it's where the airport was.
Went for a short walk around the market and stopped off at an English bar - every city has them - and met an english guy flying back the next day. He offered me about 2oz for a fiver as he couldn't take it with him. Compared to UK it was an amazing deal, but not in Morocco. It lasted for the whole fortnight. I gave away what was left on my last night.
On arrival back at Gatwick, it took almost an hour for our bags to arrive at the baggage carousel. I guess the sniffer dogs had been all over it.

Good luck with the balloon ride. We did one in the Masai Mara which was spectacular as we flew at treetop level. Unfortunately we landed on a termite hill and the basket was tipped on to its side and dragged along for about 50 yards. Scary but no real damage done.
