Football quiz âš½ 13:16 - Mar 29 with 1849 views | Miaow | Every Football League Club From Lancashire This is another football quiz that I have put together, with 25 answers to try and get in seven-and-a-half minutes. Entering the name of *one* particular team will bring up two answers, so there are technically 24 to get. This is because one club was dissolved and later reformed and so appears twice. The team/s in question have a similar name to another previous League club, and as a result a small number (I think four or five) of the answers require the full team name e.g. "Burton Albion" instead of just "Burton". Four of the clubs listed no longer exist and a number of the answers are teams which are now located within modern-day metropolitan counties. https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/1696326/every-football-league-club-from-lan Previous Yorkshire version here: https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/1696326/every-football-league-club-from-yor Cheers.

You know what, I’ve just looked again at an interactive map of the historic counties that I found online and which I used to help put the quiz together and it seems like Edgeley Park may actually just about be within the historic confines of Lancashire...! Might have to make a slight amendment. It would make sense seeing as they were known as “Heaton Norris Rovers” and Heaton Norris seems to be on the Lancs side of the border. Might only be a few hundred yards in it. Another team I was wondering about when making the quiz was Altrincham, although they’ve never quite made it into the Football League and are actually historically part of Cheshire anyway. Edit: Just had a check and it seems that Stockport did start out within Lancashire as Heaton Norris Rovers, playing on a pitch behind the Nursery Inn pub on Green Lane, but they moved to Edgeley Park (Cheshire) in 1902. Map here: https://wikishire.co.uk/map/ Second edit: After another little dig, I realised that Stockport technically were a Lancashire Football League club as they initially played in the League between 1900 and 1904, joining when they were still based in Heaton Norris, albeit having already become “Stockport County”. I shall amend the quiz accordingly. [Post edited 29 Mar 2023 20:04]

Thank you for the appreciation! And I tried to clarify it all as best as I could above and in the caveats under the quiz on the website but I know it’s all a bit of a mess when it comes to historic counties vs ceremonial counties and metropolitan counties, etc. All the teams in the quiz have at some point been based within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire. A few similar examples would be West Ham originally being based within Essex (now Greater London) and Birmingham being within Warwickshire (now West Midlands).

It was, but I've never got that close before. It's the time-limits that do for me usually, preventing me getting too close, my brain being slower than it once was. [Post edited 30 Mar 2023 18:55]

If you ever want to do a JetPunk quiz without the time constraints, I believe there is a little ‘plus’ symbol next to the answer box on the mobile site that leads to a button which reads “Untimed”, or there is a little clock symbol on the desktop site that does the same. You should then still have the option to give up if you get to a point where you can’t think of any more answers. And regarding positivity’s point about Tranmere, I did wonder if they’d also be included as I suppose we end up grouping them in our minds alongside the other two/three Merseyside clubs due to being in the same county these days, but the Wirral is historically part of Cheshire.
