Get out and vote 12:44 - Apr 17 with 609 views | HARRY10 | for whoever you chose on 4th May People who have not yet registered to vote, or are not sure if they are eligible, have until 11.59pm on Monday 17 April to submit an application. This can be done online at gov.uk/registertovote. Voters will also need to make sure they have a form of photo identification to cast a ballot, which is compulsory in England for the first time. If you do not have photo ID you’ll need to complete your application by 5pm on 25 April 2023 to get a Voter Authority Certificate for the 4 May 2023 elections in England, see https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
Get out and vote on 13:04 - Apr 17 with 556 views | DJR | Very unfairly, bus passes and the like for pensioners are admissible ID but not for those who are younger. Who can deny the whole process is designed to make it more difficult for non-Tories to vote?

It is another one of the absurdities of this government. Voter fraud is almost unknown yet we are to pay for extra polling station staff on the day, with all the consequent hassle. I wonder how much the economy has grown to pay for that.

Wikipedia says this about the Heritage Foundation, where Truss spoke last week. "The Heritage Foundation has promoted false claims of voter fraud. Hans von Spakovsky who heads the Election Law Reform Initiative at the Heritage Foundation has played an influential role in making alarmism about voter fraud mainstream in the Republican Party, despite no evidence of widespread voter fraud. Following the 2020 presidential election–in which President Donald Trump made baseless claims of fraud after he was defeated for reelection–the Heritage Foundation launched a campaign in support of Republican efforts to make state voting laws more restrictive." This indicates the increasing links between right wing groups, both here and the States, and the Republican and Tory Party. [Post edited 17 Apr 2023 13:39]

....you need to provide photgraphic ID to get an over 65 pass, but not for an under 65 pass? So the "ID check" has already taken place. Yes, that will be it.

That's not actually true because (according to my local authority website) you can get a pensioner's bus pass on the strength of a birth certificate or driving licence. The former is not photo ID and the latter was at one time non-photographic, meaning that many older pensioners will have got a bus pass on the strength of one. Similar rules apply to the Senior Railcard, which I have (I'm too young for a bus pass), but that is not valid because presumably to make it valid would mean validating the 26-30 Railcard where photographic ID (a passport or driving licence) is required. There's method in their madness. [Post edited 17 Apr 2023 14:14]
