Wait a minute ... 12:29 - Apr 25 with 988 views | Darth_Koont | Dom Ball is only 27!?? Admittedly, I pay less and and less attention to wider football than I did 20 or even 10 years ago so can’t say he was ever on my radar. But when I saw him I just assumed he was a 32-33 year old experienced journeyman to bulk up the squad. Certainly good enough for us and League One I hasten to add but his age has surprised me. So, is he still on his way up and can develop with the team? At a minimum he’s useful cover next year wherever we end up but anyone reckon he could be more than that?

Played 90 odd games for QPR in Championship. Very competent player, top fella too by all accounts

Indeed. Assume if he’d stayed fit we wouldn’t have signed Luongo

Which raises an interesting question for the summer, especially if we get promoted. I also hadn't realised how young Ball is, but at three years younger than Luongo, and with Evans still (presumably?) to return, one wonders which of them will stay. If Gamechanger turn the spending taps on, they surely can't all stay, and will Humphreys play except in the more Mickey Mouse competitions? He might find himself loaned back to League One, I guess. It might be unfair on Ball to be surplus to requirements, especially given that he never got going, but I would be more disappointed to see Luongo leave, after the impact he's had. Getting ahead of myself, but it will be interesting to see who stays and who goes.

I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Humphreys will be even more of a key player next year. After a full year with the first team squad and vastly more match experience, but also because he’s technically one of the best in the squad and we’ll need that quality more in the Championship. For me, it’s one of Camara, Ball and Evans that misses out and I presume Harper is now surplus too. Even if he perhaps deserves pre-season and a second chance in a side that isn’t stuttering as much as before.

That would be fantastic if KMac sees Humphreys as being ready to play the majority of games in the Championship. I certainly think 'horses for courses' - some players are technically proficient but can only show that to the full at a higher level. Downes is a decent example of that from our own midfield. Would you keep Luongo on?
