If a criminal offence can carry a life sentence 18:14 - Jul 19 with 1051 views | gtsb1966 | then surely the sentence given here is an insult to the victims and their families. Absolutely should've been life. I hope the sentence is challenged and increased so this lowlife spends more time in prison. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-66247471

The court systems are not fit for purpose. You could probably find a huge list of sentences that could be described as boggling at best and utterly disgraceful at worst.. and this is disgraceful as experience will tell us that he’ll probably be out in about 7 or 8 years anyway
If a criminal offence can carry a life sentence on 19:03 - Jul 19 with 931 views | DJR | I think you'll find it's because the sentences for such offences involving cars are limited. Personally, I have always taken the view they should be higher, especially if death is caused. EDIT: I may well be wrong as the law does appear to have been changed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61940351 [Post edited 19 Jul 2023 19:06]

The sentencing guidelines aren't a product of the court, but politicians.

"The court systems are not fit for purpose." eh ? What patrt of the 'systems' atre not fit for purpose. Do you actually understand the meaning of what you have stated ? the ironu is we have the Mail/Exptress etc wailing that sentences are not long enough, blithely ignoring who has been in government for the past 13 years. Talk to any copper and they will trell you of the frustration of getting someone to court, seeing them found guilty then not be jailed.... because there is not enough space to put them away. Years of cuts jave left the orison service grossly undefunded. There is the problem, and that is the cause. As to this cretin I have long felt there is not the deterrent in sentencing for car crime. If someone drives while intoxicated then it is much as the scumbag who shot at people outside a pub in Liverpool. Yes, you can claim to did not intend to kill that girl, but your act was such that it was highly likely someone would be killed. There should not be the leniency there is when someone is convicted of D/D, just because they did not kill someone. That is often by luck. Their intent was to drive a vehicle at a speed that could kill, without the ability to control that vehicle. Driving is a privilege, not a right. That privilege is like much else in society. Things work because people are in general aware of others and adjust their actions to ensure things do work. If someone is unable to grasp that then that privilege should be removed, be it prison or a driving ban. What ever time this sh it spends in prison, it should be followed by a lifetime ban from driving. "The court was told Iqbal had been convicted of driving without insurance in 2019 and in December 2021 posted a video to Facebook after filming himself speeding in a Lamborghini Huracan in Dubai. Two months before the M66 crash, he was given a warning by police after being stopped while racing an Audi on public roads." He was given a warning ? [Post edited 19 Jul 2023 20:36]

Essentially taking a deadly weapon and endangering 100s of people. Anyone caught performing this level of dangerous driving should be a lifetime ban, even if they don’t cause any injuries
