I've been through Twyford a few times recently and noticed that on the outskirts there is a property to let notice board and somebody had painted a letter "i" between the "o" and the "l". (It may have been to turn it into an advert for Twyford Civic products but that's probably a bit too obscure). It didn't take a year for that to be removed as it was back to being "To Let" within a couple of weeks or so.

I was at Uni in Winchester when they were building the by-Pass through Twyford Down. It’s a horrible scar through the Downs there but obviously the road serves a purpose. At the other end of the scale is the nearby Hindhead tunnel, they’ve removed the old road and returned it to nature - part of the picturesque Devil’s Punchbowl.
