If McKenna leaves, the new manager (transfers) 09:57 - May 26 with 1597 views | Guthrum | People are talking as if this courting of our manager has brought all planning and transfer activity to a shuddering halt. But why would this be the case? "The new man will have his own targets." He may do. But at so many clubs now (including Brighton) the manager has little influence over transfer activity anyway. They are given a squad to train and work with. Candidates will have come across the situation before. After all, it's no different to arriving part-way through a season and inheriting someone else's squad. Not to mention the fact that many more transfers happen towards the end of the window than at the beginning. "What if he plays a different style?" Well, don't hire him, then. You wouldn't expect a club to sign players who didn't fit into their system. Why would you do it with a manager? Find someone who plays his teams in the style we already use and can run with our current setup. "McKenna will have lost focus." He doesn't strike me as that kind of bloke. More the slightly obsessive kind who can't resist doing a bit more research on players or teams at any time and any place. Plus he's still under contract here and (so far as has been reported) hasn't actually had any offers from elsewhere yet. It might be distracting Ashton a bit, but he has teams of people to do the ongoing work anyway.

But we can't do that until mid June, when the window opens - even newly released players*. It's already being reported we're speaking to people (see other thread on the Watford chap). * They would need to have been let go before the end of the January window.

If McKenna leaves, the new manager (transfers) on 10:41 - May 26 with 1346 views | LankHenners | All true but let's not act like managerial uncertainty isn't disruptive to transfer plans. Ashton's said several times how involved McKenna is in the process and in particular has a big say on whether he thinks player X will fit in in both playing style and character. If a player is being convinced to join us, with McKenna being a big part of that, then that player might have hesitations if they're not sure whether the man who wants to sign him is going to be around much longer. Not to say it means that will happen with every target and we've no chance of signing anyone but any doubt we (unintentionally) put in prospective signing's minds makes it a bit harder to close the deal and a bit easier for someone else to persuade them to join them instead. Best thing for us if this all gets cleared up one way or another very quickly and we can move forwards.

I think the offer of the Man U job would see McKenna leave, but at the same time, I’m pretty sure the likes of Ferguson would be saying stay at Ipswich, show everyone what you can do, if there isn’t an offer on the table. Which hopefully would Sway him to stay here. Brighton and Chelsea is a far bigger risk than trying to keep us in the prem imo.
If McKenna leaves, the new manager (transfers) on 12:06 - May 26 with 1080 views | FrimleyBlue | Don't you think a player would rather play for mckenna than Paul Cook for example. Not knowing who's going to be manager in 6 weeks time isn't helpful when trying to bring players in. Also what if the play we want fits our profile but the new manager previously hasn't taken to said player, lambert with donacien as an example. I do agree with some of your points. However I don't think it's fair for anyone to not be able to say it definitely will have an effect on our recruitment plans. As long as of course mkenna has been actively looking to leave. If he's already given to clear to staying then nothing changes
