Sarajevo City Break. 11:44 - Jun 4 with 1021 views | StochesStotasBlewe | Watching the England v Bosnia match with my son last night, he randomly said about the two of us going to the aforementioned city for a break in September and on reflection this morning I am warming to the idea. Anyone of you TWTD Intrepid travellers been and if so, is it a good place to stay for 3 nights or so. We both like historical stuff and decent food and beer in the evening and have done a few of these kinds of trips in the past. Cheers in advance.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Sarajevo City Break. on 12:04 - Jun 4 with 934 views | jimsymBLUE | It's a beautiful little city, with great Balkan bbq restaurants, Cevabdzinca Galatasaray being a particular favourite, the owner used to play for Galatasaray & is lovely fella, the walls covered in football photos of his career..very well priced grub. Its not very lively in comparison to Zagreb or Belgrade in terms of nightlife and decent beer but enough for 3 days. The local wine is pretty good, if you could manage an extra day or so Mostar is absolutely stunning..we managed to fly in there & out of Sarajevo with wizz a couple of years back.

Sarajevo City Break. on 12:09 - Jun 4 with 924 views | Wacko | It's a cool city, very "Soviet" but with an Islamic twist, full of the friendliest people. Wild night life, boozing and smoking 24/7. It's very small so 3 nights will be plenty. On Mondays they have Kino Bosna - a crazy "turbofolk" night in an abandoned cinema where mainly locals go (and local gangsters). Live folk music and the odd bar brawl if you're lucky! In September the weather will still be nice so you can go up to the mountains outside the city to a random place called Dragan's - an old guy who owns a hut and serves stew (edit: don't think he provides beer actually). From there there's a decent trek to Skakavac Waterfall ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skakavac_(Sarajevo) ). Dragan's place isn't on Google maps but taxi drivers know him. More info here: https://rebeccascribes.wordpress.com/2014/08/23/sarajevo-day-7-skakavac/ As for restaurants, Dveri is excellent and traditional. Sushi San is a great but tiny sushi place run by an old Bosnian who trained in Japan. Highly recommended. And Karuzo is a quirky vegetarian place in what looks the hull of ship, run by a mad old chef who cooks everything from scratch and doesn't allow walk-ins (you have to book ahead even if it's empty). No sugar cheesecake is great. Masses of kebab / cevapi places that are mostly decent. Other than Kino Bosna, bars tend to be pretty generic. There are a couple of nice Irish ones (full of locals) [Post edited 4 Jun 2024 12:12]

Sarajevo City Break. on 12:36 - Jun 4 with 858 views | Mullet | I absolutely loved it. Wonderful people. We stayed far too long as it’s quite small and we didn’t factor that in. The Olympic park is worth seeing and the food and ottoman influence is excellent. Was maybe 10 years ago but I’d definitely recommend it
