Lots of criticism of our defending and it was not great but rather silly to write players off as some seem to be doing. I was surprised with the line up Burns, Clarke and Hutch all the type of players we love to see at Town but the three of them together? Away in the Premier? Morsy and Phillips got totally overwhelmed in the middle of the park despite working their socks off as those three didn't do their defensive duties, well that was my take watching the game . Yes a big set back but we have bounced back before and will probably have to do a few more times but we can still make it in this league as we will be a lot better in the second half of the season.

I didn't watch the game live, but from the highlights it seems like Bowen has the freedom of the park. He couldn't believe his luck with the amount of space and non forthcoming tackles. I think the OP has made a fair point. I would perhaps have Taylor in the middle of the pitch too for away matches to shore us up a little bit more and make us more competitive. Looks like we were going through the motions. That said Delap was unlucky not to get a second and Greaves' header should have hit the target. We go again.

For much of the game, Burns, Clarke and Omari were bypassed anyway by West Ham playing direct balls into Antonio (which both Greaves and O'Shea struggled to deal with) Having got used to watching Burgess swat balls like that away like a fly for the past couple of seasons, we really need to improve on that, or teams will look to target that as an easy way to beat our press.

I’m not writing anyone off at times at the back we just make some terrible mistakes.

You can’t afford to do that in this league as you get punished very quickly.

That’s exactly what happened. Fans writing players off are just lazy, knee jerk reaction types grabbing hold of anything they can to pin blame on something they can’t fully rationalise.

KM was at fault today. He’ll have to take the hit and there’s not many times we’ve said that since he arrived. I think he thought West Ham were there for the taking and after 4-unbeaten, we could impose our way of playing against them, which was wrong. If our shape was the same against Liverpool or Villa, we’d have got some kind of result but we played Championship ball and could have lost by 7 or 8.

Play like that, we’ll go down. Hopefully that’s the last we’ll see of that.

Even more risky playing, championship ball with just 3 of the players who were so used to that system.
