Excellent piece in The Athletic with Lee Grant... 20:21 - Jan 10 with 1879 views | jasondozzell | https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6043860/2025/01/10/lee-grant-interview-ipswich- "We have a culture where everybody is in the office by half six every morning,” says Lee Grant, still looking as slim and athletic as he did over a 22-year playing career. “Nobody has had their arm twisted. It’s not because the law has been laid down. It’s because we love coaching and want to give ourselves the best chance. “Quite often, that means we are still here at seven o’clock at the other end of the day. Then you go home, have a bit of dinner and the laptop is back out. That’s the game, that’s the way we work and that’s the pace the manager sets.” He intrigued me straight away,” says Grant, recalling their first meetings on United’s training ground, where McKenna was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff. “No fear, big self-belief, very comfortable delivering team meetings and a really assured presence on the grass. “That was quite striking to see someone of his age, a young guy, commanding the respect of World Cup winners and Champions League winners. “I was doing my coaching badges and I remember thinking: ‘I want to understand how I get to that level of composure and detail’. I’d pick Kieran’s brains and what I found out was that to get to that level, it (football) is bordering on an obsession.”

Whilst I believe Keiran will be as famous as Pep in 20 years time, I find the 12 hour or probably 14 hour days too much.

Nothing new about it though. Alex Ferguson was usually behind his desk at Old Trafford by 7am most days.

Early start is brilliant but he would've stopped by 5pm. It's working for us but to do 14 hour days across 11 months eventually you'll crash. Just saying I'd love if he had more down time or family time that's all.

To much? Christ. For the money they earn its the least you expect. Go back to sales jobs you'd be leaving the house at 6 getting home after 12 hours yourself. It's the cost of earning that sort of wage
