Ta for posting. Interesting.

The cost of clean up is £428m a year for 20 years. Sounds a lot. But it’s peanuts. 1p on income tax = £10bn. Over 20 years GDP at £3tn a year = £60tn. How can we not afford to do something about this? Allied to that is sorting out foreign owned water companies and other polluters. How about fining them £428m a year for 20 years?

The government is ‘rapidly reviewing the environmental improvement plan’. Oh yeah? Six months in government and 14 years in opposition and they’re ‘reviewing’. Another can being kicked down the road?

Yes, but I'm rich so I'm immune, surely? And if not I can take a pill or have an injection to fix it, can't I? (I won't have to wait, of course, because I can go private tomorrow). "No", you say? Well then, we'll just have to grow our way out of this problem then won't we?

I'll pop off to St Barts, Whistler and maybe the Maldives whilst they do it (I've got an inheritance to spend, don't you know), but I must remember to instruct my accountant to move things around a bit just in case they can't squeeze any more out of the plebs, and somebody actually comes after Us for a contribution. Yuck.
