The first goal... 10:27 - Jan 17 with 817 viewsWright1

A lot of heat for Walton on that one and I get it... but from the replays i've seen does Leif not get a touch which changes the course of the ball right at the last moment? Very harsh to put it down as a mistake if it is the case.

I’m not going to pile into Walton any more than I do Muric. He’s a good keeper. They all make mistakes, as do outfield players. The difference is at goalkeeper, every error is costly and obvious.

Touch or no touch it really didn't help him running completely across Walton's line of sight. Not as if he was sliding to make a block either, it seemed a fairly passive bit of defending.

Poll: Pick a goal to win the derby in stoppage time...

100% this - While there was a minor deflection from Leif, I would expect Walton to have saved it and I reckon he would be honest enough to say the same. He also made some mistakes with his passing/distribution, most notably the corner conceded when he got confused with what to do and kicked the ball straight out. It happens. He did however pull off one other outstanding save and several good saves

I don't think there is that much difference between Walton's performance and most of Muric's, but Walton is thought of more fondly due to his growth with the club over the last few years.

The question is, do we have an issue with goalkeepers? I don't think so, I just think that keepers are now under far more pressure and scrutiny than ever before with the way they are expected to play like an outfield player, yet have the specialist skills of a glovesman. Not sure it is fair, but keepers do make a good (e)scapegoat.

Yes. To me the shot was going pretty much where Walton's hands/ lower arms would have ended up (and in time for them to save it). The deflection diverts it back towards his body. Not enough so the ball hits his body, but just enough to put it beneath his upper arms.

Fine margins.
