Running Towards Adversity? 00:32 - Jan 20 with 1412 views | WeirdFishes | Am I the only one who doesn’t see this value in the team at the moment? The last two years it’s felt like we’ve had a real never say die attitude, when we conceded we didn’t let it effect us, if anything we used it as fuel to fight back. There’s been a few times this season where it feels like when we concede, we just accept that that’s it and crumble. Today, Brighton, Bournemouth and Palace spring to mind.

Essentially that. But with with added qualifications. Personally I HATE it. I GET that it's Inspirational Management B**locks but as someone who holds an advanced life support qualification I'm very much of the school of 'this is my job this is what I do', I'm not a hero but I am TRAINED to deal with actual adversity but an awful lot MORE training goes into avoiding the bloody adversity in the first place. Avoiding adversity is good, it means you're SAFE. Sure, stand up and be f**king counted when the s**t is hitting the fan, bit don't actively bloody court it. [Post edited 20 Jan 1:29]

Running Towards Adversity? on 00:56 - Jan 20 with 1251 views | FoD_Blue | Bournemouth? By the time they scored their winner, there was barely time to run back to the half way line, let alone run towards adversity. And there was only about 8 minutes between their equiliser and the final whistle. I think we just have a team now, many of who are playing right at the threshold of their ability. It's not easy to come from behind when you are already at your limit.

For Bournemouth I was referring to their equaliser.

Indeed - hurtling towards hardship is hardly an inspirational life goal.

Running Towards Adversity? on 02:00 - Jan 20 with 1099 views | Churchman | It’s a slogan and I think it’s fine. Coming back from bad situations, fighting to get something from a game. Fight not flight, not giving up - all good things you can interpret from it. I see no lack of effort or will. I just saw one team that was a country mile better in every way, individually and collectively. There wasn’t a single aspect in which we competed with them. They were better coached, organised and set up too. They don’t just accept, fade and crumble. We just lack the ability to do anything about it. Try and play further up the field and they cut you to pieces - that’s when we get the ball off these teams which is rare. Keeper hits it long, ball comes back. Keeper plays short, for or five passes, misplaced pass, ball comes back. For various reasons a team that was better than the sum of its parts last season appear to a collection of individuals this year much of the time and that’s not helped by facing better teams with far better players.

You’re missing the point. The sentiment to actively encourage it means you’ll face all your fears whether known or unknown, not just foreseen ones you can prepare and plan for. Through doing this, we’ll become better, more prepared etc.
