To be honest we have a few players over-awed by the standards of Premiership football.
It looks too easy for teams to score when playing us..
What is exciting is the recruitment of some good footballers. Just have to get the tactics right.
I still feel Townsend should occupy a place in the back 4 that should prioritise defending.
The pace going forward has to be our asset.

Agree re Townsend, before we bought Philogene Leif could have played that position. We need balls over the top into channels as we cannot compete in centre mid. | | | |

Not a direct criticism but the first three posts are proposing dropping Leif rather than asking him to play a less aggressive high position in possession, whilst hitting long balls over the midfield. It’s almost like football in the 80s or 90s.

The Townsend one is a bit strange. How much of a downgrade do they think he is compared to Davis when he can't get a sniff even when Davis has been ill in the build up to the game, and a game in which we're going to need to be rock solid?
You'd think it that was an easy selection to make to give CT some minutes. Obviously he got them in the end but still. |  |

Townsend was bought as the left back equivalent of Slicker. He will not be expecting to ever start a league game when Leif's fit and nor will he. Davis was ill on Saturday, reports suggest he was physically sick in the dressing room, and he still started.
As for this 'defensive liability' talk, it's all based upon McKenna's tactical plan. If you play Townsend at LB, you lose so much of the team's tactical shape and attacking outlet.
I'm not saying this is right or wrong - but to expect McKenna to change anything in the area is pointless because it's not happening. |  | | |
