Too ponderous. Holding onto the ball far too long.
We were against a side whose confidence is shot. They were misplacing passes all over the place, easily outmuscled off the ball. Get in the lead against them and they fold.
Yet we gave them confidence, as soon as they had something to protect they were throwing themselves into everything, whipping passes around.
Still, we all knew relegation was likely and if we go down then so be it. The bigger picture is that we are going in the right direction, even if we have to take a step back this year. |  |

Southampton's results haven't really been better under the new manager but their performances have improved I would suggest, unfortunately we were on the wrong end of a result that they have probably deserved in recent games
And on the balance of games we have had recently against them, they owed us that one sadly
On the balance of the game, they were fairly lucky, it's too big errors against side who didn't offer a lot sadly, this league is ruthless |  |

That's the obvious chance missed but we had a few others that another day fall and go in, Southampton rode their luck and then punished us for it
You do have to contrast the Ramsdale and Muric signings though, they went for a solid PL performer and we went for a real wild card who hasn't paid off | |
