If we go down and come back up 15:06 - Apr 6 with 427 viewsBseaBlue

Do we think we keep the majority of the squad together then go down the route of signing a few players in the 30 to 50 million quid bracket?

Not really sure how else we start catching up other than that, looking at the long term goal of becoming an established prem club.

This year has shown the gulf. When we come back up, we may find the gap closer but still too much.

I can see a situ of promotion /relegation/promotion/relegation until we can establish ourselves.

So....its about those incremental improvements season on season.

As a lot have said, the midfield needs sorting - would be lovely if we could get that done in the summer and have a whole season playing together before, hopefully, another crack at the Prem.
Only have to look at the ages to see we’re looking long term with a number of players (or decent profit from sell on.)
Wondering if O’Shea will get the captaincy full time to help keep him happy. Only 26 and mostly been a positive this season.

I guess it depends a lot on the fair play rules as to what we are able to spend. But then spending doesn't guarantee results. Spending and buying the right players does. This season we have been found out in most areas of the field. Both previous bought and new players with Delap and O'Shea the exception and latterly Palmer, have in the main proved disappointing. Phillips cost Man City almost £50 million, was a huge failure for them and not the greatest loan for us. You only have to look at players with decent pedigrees who have signed for Man Utd these past few years. Players like Pogba for £90 million to see that it doesn't guarantee anything. Fans moan about the £130 million Town have spent, but Delaps worth at least double and players like Hutchinson and Philogene may prove to be worth a lot more than we paid. O'Shea right now is probably worth more than we paid.
