With the flurry of new signings 15:36 - Aug 29 with 776 viewsRadlett_blue

we are going to have to be patient. I hope they can remedy the obvious shortcomings in the side, particularly in attack, but it's going to take a while for them to fit in & for McKenna to find his best team. Let's hope desperately for a win tomorrow, the window will slam shut on Monday & McKenna will have 10 days or so to try to work a few things out on the training ground (although several of our players will be away on international duty).

We already have an expensive squad, that had primarily been together for a long time.

Time for results with the new recruits.

I don't want to hear anymore 'new team' or 'gelling' excuses. They need to start 'running towards adversity'. 😜

We are.

We could really do with taking a win from Derby into the international break though. The result is everything, don't care how it comes or how we play. Dodgy pen or deflection off someones arse.

We need to take as many points from the first 12 games as possible by hook or by crook whilst we establish patterns of play.

Agree, I think it will take time especially with the extent of the change and lateness of the additions. September hopefully gives a good opportunity to develop the patterns of play and tactical elements while integrating the new signings.

In the meantime though we need results, can't afford to fins ourselves too far behind the likes of Brum, Leicester, Southampton. The ones that are more likely to maintain their pace.

Hopefully get that 1st win tomorrow and things will be looking positive.

I agree with you that the first 3 games have been very disappointing, in terms of both performances & results. If we hadn't now brought in at least 3 more players, I would say it was time for McKenna to show he can get a return out of this squad. However, I now feel it might take a bit longer, although hopefully the new players will be upgrades on what we have.

This isn't meant to come across sarcastic or facetious. Why 12 games?

And the final 34 games as well, after we establish patterns of play.

I dont buy the 'gelling' excuse.

If the new players cause a headache, put them on the bench and integrate them slowly.

We need to start winning matches and performing well.

random figure plucked out of thin air! (based solely on my own thinking of the time needed whilst we establish patterns of play with new signings)

POST OF THE WEEK on 16:18 - Aug 29 with 502 viewsunstableblue

It was obvious against Preston that patterns of play and connections were a work in progress, Davis and Philogene, Clarke and Johnson

There is even more flux now

Fans were quite on the edge before this crazy transfer window has distracted

It won’t take long to be reminded of those concerns

A win tomorrow would be incredibly positive, but if it doesn’t come patience will be the order of the day

The quality of team means a very strong run is likely

But confidence is the missing ingredient currently

I hope McKenna sticks with a fairly unchanged team from Preston - maybe Cajuste and Young coming in… and the starting players are motivated by the new competition rather than distracted

Well, we've tried that with Cajuste, Akpom & McAteer. It's blindingly obvious that our attacking threat is negligible.
With what we've spent on the squad so far, McKenna will be in trouble if he doesn't have Town performing as we would hope by December.

Much, much sooner than that I hope.

Cajuste isn't a new player and has partnered Matusiwa 40+ times , Furlong knows the CB and GK that he will be playing next to. So thats two who should slot straight in.

When I say "performing by December" I expect us to be in the top 6 & within reach of the top 2. Yes, these players should be ready to slot in; my fear is that McKenna will be too cautious with the new players & doesn't really know his best team as the first 3 performances indicate he didn't know his best team with the player we already had, or that some of those players weren't good enough.

Agreed.

Its worrying if he is that unsure. If hes as good as we all think, then it shouldnt be a problem for him.

Agree. Tomorrow is absolutely massive.

If we draw or lose we could potentially end up 10pts behind the top two, which even in August is material.

And as excited as I am at this week's signings, I think it's October at least before we see any patterns of play or new partnerships really gel.

It's going to be a bit like building a car while in motion for a while.

I think we are going to blow them away early and win comfortably.

We have mustered two shots on target all season (one was a penalty)! Not sure we are capable of blowing anyone away for now but I love the optimism.

Think you are being very hopeful. It won’t be easy, we look very disjointed and that won’t change over night.
