Green shoots and all that 18:04 - Aug 30 with 421 views | homer_123 | That spell, in particular after we scored, was very much how we know we can play. Bit of urgency, patterns, runs, mixing up playing through the lines and going a tad more direct. I lament O'Shea's header hitting the post, what might have been. In short, we were punished for two mistakes, Premier League'esq and normally in the Champ you can 'get away with one'. We do need to tighten up at the back and improve our decision making and cut out some of those errors. The other positive today, for all our lack of confidence, there is no lack of effort, I didn't think we deserved to loose today, the lads battling to the end, coupled with that spell in the first half, we are not far away (though I appreciate it might not feel it at times). It's two points dropped but it's not a loss, in the scheme of things, we take it, learn and move on. I thought Cajuste, as we knew, was class today, some lovely work and, boy, does he glide over the grass and by his man (or two). Thought Matsy did well and can see these two working well together. I do like Chappers in that CAM role, he plays it so well and just seems more likely to create something and link up play for me. Hirsty is simply trying too hard, though how the ref didn't give that Pen, I have no idea. Work in progress for sure. [Post edited 30 Aug 18:09]

I honestly thought we'd come out and cruise the second half and win 3-0 the way we were starting to dominate, but the pen gave them all the belief they needed and we were well off it going forward after that.

You could see that bit of confidence and arrogance got knocked out of us, it's not surprising - though they stuck at it.

Hirst was poor but will come good. Especially with some direct competition for his place. We all know what he can do. O’Shea and Greaves were fine, until they weren’t. I wonder how long before KM switches that up. Akpom was fairly lively when he came on. JC also: took some balls to take that pen - that will have done his confidence the world of good. Not sure about McAteer but KM must see something. And we’ve Egeli to come in. Still plenty of positives, but we need to start motoring soon. Big game Friday to give us the platform to kick on against Blackburn and Portsmouth.

The confidence is still so fragile in the group at the minute. Ater that we just started passing around safely and slowly, until we found a winger who then proceeded to give the ball away, over and over. Either that or both teams were trying to play a game of keepy-uppies, when the Derby players weren't flailing around on the floor, of course!
