| A14 closures tomorrow night 12:00 - Mar 2 with 1251 views | BlueForYou | From the EADT... Drivers are being warned to expect lengthy diversions as a stretch of the A14 closes from today. National Highways is carrying out essential maintenance on the westbound carriageway of the major route near Stowmarket until Tuesday, March 10. The westbound side of the road will be closed nightly between junctions 51 and 46 from 8pm to 6am to minimise disruption. An official diversion route, covering around 53 miles, will be in place throughout the closure. It comes as another stretch of the A14 is closed this week. National Highways is also carrying out work between junction 58 and junction 59, from Tuesday, March 3, until Wednesday, March 4. The stretch of road will be closed between the hours of 8pm and 6am. Electrical works will be taking place along the stretch of the major road on behalf of National Highways. During the closure, Felixstowe Road, which runs parallel to the A14, will be one way, to allow for the traffic from the eastbound carriageway to avoid the closure. | | | | |

| Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness. |

Thanks for this. Just seen this thread having just bought a ticket for tomorrow. (I will need to go back this way). So this is only a short diversion then via your suggested route by the sounds of it. I wonder why the EADT haven't mentioned this option.

Looks like a long closure through to Beyton. [Post edited 2 Mar 13:10]

It'll be the official Highways England route - i.e. sufficient to deal with the volume and type of traffic that would otherwise be using the A14.

So is it likely to be the full lengthy diversion to Beyton then as the other post suggests? I need to get back to Wetherden. Could I come off at J51 as per Sitter's post, go up the A140 to Earl Stonham and turn left? [Post edited 2 Mar 13:20]

I think you should be able to do whatever your local knowledge permits. As far as I'm aware, the only closure will be the A14, so any back-route of which you know should be an option. There's the risk, though, that a few hundred others (plus a few HGVs for good measure) could have the same idea, and absolutely snarl up any shorter routes.

Yes you can go whatever way you wish, or know, it’s just not a lot of locals know the ‘shortcuts’ - I personally won’t even go on the A14 and go my usual route for when there’s a closure.
