It wasn’t a great second half yesterday… 11:32 - Mar 22 with 862 viewstractorboy1978

But didn’t think the 4 changes in very quick succession helped. None of Philogene, Akpom or Hirst seemed to get up to the pace of the game at all and we lost any momentum we had. Clarke was terrorising them down the left side and then got flipped to the right where he was less effective.

I also really don’t like getting on a player’s back but McAteer really is dross.

Yeah it was strange how Clarke was finding so much space and we didn't once manage to get JP isolated. Also think the stoppages in general really prevented us from sustaining pressure like we did first half. Remember a couple of times we wanted the quick free kick and the ref allowed them to slow it down and get back in position.

I honestly thought it was mcateers best game for us by a country mile. Beat his man and won numerous corners, his back tracking and winning back the ball on a couple of occasions kept them from having dangerous break away. The game was pretty open which means he had more space to do things. He’s still not worth any where close to what was paid for him but put himself about, won duels, was direct when he needed to be. Only downside is when teams are compact then it pretty much renders him useless.

Agreed. He did well. Like the fact he takes his man on instead of coming inside as Sindre does.

Winning a corner is just about the best impact you get from him.

‘I also really don’t like getting on a player’s back but McAteer really is dross.‘

That’s the same as ‘I don’t mean to be rude but’ and are then rude. Don’t dress it up or try and sound sort of balanced. You are getting on McAteer’s back and enjoying doing it, otherwise you wouldn’t be piling in.

To the point, he’s by no means our best player and was offering little in the first bit of the game. My seat neighbour and I were commenting on this as he was playing on our side and then he suddenly went down the outside a couple of times, got a few crosses in and got more involved - he did get up to the pace of the game.

I thought he dealt with the physicality of Millwall ok too and I could see why he was selected yesterday. Not our best player but one of his better contributions this season.

He’s no Clarke or Philogene but I’m equally not convinced he’s a write off yet.

The bench didn’t impact as I’d hoped. We looked more disjointed and the subs never got to the pace of Millwall. Looking at what was on the beach at kick off, it looked a bit light to me.

McKenna said one or two players were carrying injuries. Whether that’s a justifiable excuse I don’t know. It won’t be for dismals of course and I’d imagine most teams are carrying knocks at the moment.

I’m not sure we missed Kipre as he’s been out of form and Greaves did fine. I did think we missed Davis and Nunez though and a fit Burns might have been useful too.

Apart from the perfect cross for Davis to score winner at Derby. And similar cross for Davis at Stoke which we should have scored from. And plenty of other near assists. He’s not as good as Burns but is better than Sindre at creating opportunities.

Philogene warming up in a snood and gloves - and then subsequently entering the field of play wearing gloves - on what was the hottest day of the year just sums it up.

Someone have a word with him.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

He's got the worst score of all of our 11 starters in terms of the TWTD reader ratings for the Millwall game.

That may well still qualify as his best game for us, of course...

He can wear a mascot suit and skis for all I care if he plays as well as he did before he got injured.

On that he’s nursing his way back to match fitness. What exactly does it ‘sum up’?

I really don't enjoy it, I would much rather he performed to a good level. If you go back through my posting history you won't find me talking in such blunt terms about any other player. He is just quite visibly not good enough. If playing the ball off a defenders shins for a corner more often than not is what we need from a right winger then fair enough but I don't think it should be.

With Burns out and Philogene not up to speed for a start then we don't have a lot of choice if we want an out and out right footed winger down that side but McKenna has used him increasingly sparingly over the course of this season so he can't be too impressed either.
