We played teams at the wrong times didn't we? 14:10 - May 5 with 1181 viewsIpswichTownBlue

Logically speaking anyway.

Norwich were right up there with the form teams of the division, Pompey were coming into their own before the defeat. West Brom were unbeaten in 7/8 games, Southampton hadn't lost in the league for god knows how long. All of which were away fixtures.

For end of season fixtures they were tough, all those teams were in their groove and yet we rode the storm and only lost to Pompey.

Even though it felt like we stuttered a little, looking back we dealt with those games (in general) very well.

I see what you are saying - the counter is we've finished 2nd and got promoted.

So, ultimately, we played them all at the right time?

We played QPR at the right time which ultimately was the one we needed

Not really we played Blades and Norwich at home at the right time as an example and the points count the same.

We also faced quite a few teams without their top strikers. McBurnie was on the pitch for about 5 minutes against us as an example.

I’d argue the Saints game moving may have helped us in the end.

There will be positives and negatives throughout for any team. The Pompey situation could and nearly did cost us though.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

I agree, not saying we didn't have the better end of it at times too. I'm just making the point that given the situation we were in it would have been tough to hand pick tougher games if we tried & yet we navigated them professionally.

Birmingham away definitely at the wrong time. Swans away at the right time. Although as others have said, Sheff Utd & Norwich at home at a good time. It probably all balances out, but you’d want easier games at the business end of the season when things get nervy.

I thanked my Budgie neighbour for the 6 points that got us promoted.
His face was priceless.
