A year ago today, a big risk coming out of teaching to do something she loves.
She has made big success of it in a year.
If your planning on any travel of any sorts abroad, UK, days out, hotels, Disney, airport parking, spa breaks, cruises and safaris she does the lot..can price match and has acsess to whole market. Supporting an individual rather than the big companies.

That was why I abandoned a secure job working in an office and went back to being self-employed. More than 20 years ago now. Hasn't always been easy, certainly not lucrative, but perhaps the different stresses sit easier, given the extra freedom (and a certain level of respect from customers for expertise and service you don't always receive from bosses). Being a painter and decorator was my fall-back, which became my career.
All you need is a service you do (or goods you supply), the beginnings of a market and then build a network of customers and a reputation. If it's something which needs doing regularly, you can build up long-term relationships, which in turn bring you more work from their families, friends and colleagues. | |

Well done to your missus, not an easy thing to do giving up a 'safe' job but glad to hear she's made a success of it so quickly.
Although her job will bring different stresses at least she isn't accountable to anyone now and can be her own boss.
I bet her quality of life is much better as well as presumably cheaper holidays for your family. |  |

Very much so and before the date mining explosion the internet in general made looking for travel ideas and planning your own trips not only much more affordable but more fun and with a better tailored end product as well.
But then you find yourself sitting under the shade of a tree in north east Botswana waiting for your Hilux to be cleaned and get talking to the ageing Afrikaner who is getting his fully equipped, badged trekking vehicle cleaned ahead of you and find out about how Angola is opening up. You need the experience of someone like him to go into territory where there are land mines still undiscovered but the rewards in terms of wildlife spotting are immense. | |
