The Belgian press is suggesting that Town are interested in 23-year-old Club Brugge striker Andres Mendoza. The Peruvian international is a team-mate of Gert Verheyen and Romeo Zondervan is reported to have been interested in both players during his trip to watch them thrash Racing Genk on Sunday.

Mendoza joined Brugge from Sporting Cristal in Peru in January of the 1999/00 season. Last season he was joint top scorer with Verheyen scoring 16 goals as Club Brugge finished second in the Belgian League.

In the middle of the season he was linked with a £1.5 million move to Hertha Berlin, but this deal fell through. It is thought that Hertha may come in again during the summer.

With Pablo Couñago looking likely to be a Town signing when his contract at Celta Vigo runs out in June, a move for another striker may not be at the front of George Burley's mind.

Jim Magilton joined Richard Wright in hospital yesterday for his leg operation. The Northern Irishman has been suffering with varicose veins for some while and the operation has been planned for a while.

Town boss George Burley will also spend time in hospital this season. He has loose bodies floating in his knee which need sorting out. Burley has been unable to spend time playing tennis recently due to the injury.
