Two or Three Signings Possible Before Coventry
Two or Three Signings Possible Before Coventry
Thursday, 6th Aug 2009 10:48

Town boss Roy Keane says the Blues could sign one, two or even three players before the season starts on Sunday when Town travel to Coventry for a live Sky game (KO 12.45pm).

Keane says the club have been in negotiations regarding several possible additions to the squad: “There have been talks for a number of days with a couple of clubs about different players, but I wouldn’t like to comment on certain individuals. However, we are hopeful of signing a new player, maybe two, maybe three, in the next 48 hours.

“There are still big ifs - whether we’ll get permission to speak to these players, we have to discuss personal terms, there’s medicals involved - so there’s a long way to go on any of these deals.”

Strikers are clearly top of Keane’s wish-list with Watford’s Tamás Priskin and Sunderland’s Daryl Murphy two of the players likely to have been the subject of the talks: “You look at the goals we scored last season, I think it was 62, we need more than that - goals win games.”

Sunderland loanee Jack Colback will come into Keane’s thinking for Coventry, having joined on loan until January, not as initially believed for the full season.

The Town boss confirmed that the central midfielder will be considered for a role at the Ricoh Arena: “He’s a young player I know well. We’re looking forward to him coming down, he’ll train today and he’ll go straight into the first team squad.

“He’s a very good young player, tenacious, good energy, can tackle, he’ll do well for us.”

Town’s only new injury concern is midfielder Colin Healy, who is suffering with blisters after last week’s sessions with the army, although the former Cork City man would miss the game in any case as he has a suspension carried over from his time in the League of Ireland.

David Wright came through the reserve game at Bury without a problem, while Ben Thatcher is unlikely to be involved with the first team as yet and Pablo Couñago is sidelined with his groin problem.

Whoever it is, it has sure made the start of the season even more exciting! I'd be very happy with Priskin and a couple of surprises. Not sure I can take much more of the constant speculation though!

Whats the betting all 3 are Irish?

I suspect Keano has something up his sleeve and we'll be seeing a £3m striker coming in

Abbott31, your talking rubbish, there is no player on Cork's books called jack Bell, unless your talking about the guy who was born in 1869.
According to Sky Sports news last week two premier league clubs have had offers turned down for Beckford, so Leeds are obviously asking for silly money for an unproven striker at that level. I'm glad we aren't interested in him, the only thing bigger than the transfer fee & his wage demands is his ego, he would only cause unrest in the club & i don't think RK would tolerate someone mouthing off all the time.

“There are still big ifs - whether we'll get permission to speak to these players" Normally you say it's possible to bring in players after the bids are accepted Keano!

Keano has been "hopeful" of getting 1,2 or 3 players in for a while now so i will be happy when it happens, especially if signed in time to play Sunday.
Would prefer Priskin to Murphy and Gio would be top notch although i couldnt see him coming here for long than say a 3 month loan.
Bring it on!!!

Blueboy1066 Yes Phillips would be an excellent signing, dont think he will consider this as AM has promised he will be involved with Brum this season,Murphy? Phillips once rejected a move to PM!!
Van yes would be a coup,Di Santos dont think he would sign, maybe loan for a year,Priskin is a must, always been impressed with him,our fox in the box something we have lacked for some time. Come on RK blue white army, bring on Cov.lets for a change start well, and then go from strength to strength. We must be in pole from the start of season, consistency only will win us this leauge
