Wickham Withdrawn From England Squad
Wickham Withdrawn From England Squad
Saturday, 22nd Aug 2009 08:24

Town have withdrawn striker Connor Wickham from the England U17 squad playing a friendly tournament in the Midlands this week. The 16-year-old was due to be in action in games against Italy, Portugal and Turkey, which would have seen him miss the Blues' Carling Cup tie against Peterborough and the league match with Preston.

The move comes as no surprise with Wickham having been involved in all Town’s first team games so far this season. Last season, the Blues withdrew the frontman from the England U16 squad so he could make his senior debut as a sub in the game against Doncaster Rovers.

Wickham, who already has four caps at U17 level, has been replaced in the England squad by Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.

Makes sense really hes being playing well and with few striking options he it would be more benefical for him to stay here and probaly start a game or two.

Hes time will come for his country and at not smack in the middle of a load of games probaly for the under 21s in the future where the international calander is set. wasn't stuart pearce at the game the other night.

Good decision. With Pablo injured, we only have Stead and Priskin at the club. We will need back up!

Good for us but shame for him, he could have gain more experience and showed how much of a quality player he is.
Always good to represent your country so he might be a bit disappointed.
