Edwards Looking Forward to Being Reunited With Keane
Edwards Looking Forward to Being Reunited With Keane
Wednesday, 2nd Sep 2009 08:32

New Town signing Carlos Edwards says he is looking forward to working with Town manager Roy Keane once again having completed his move to Portman Road yesterday. Edwards is currently away on international duty with Trinidad and Tobago.

The 30-year-old says he enjoyed himself at the Stadium of Light but thought he had reached a stage where he had to move on: "It was short and sharp. I had two-and-a-half nice years at Sunderland, and sometimes, good things have got to come to an end.

“For me, I felt my career had to keep on going, and the talks were ongoing a couple days before I signed the contract. So I've signed for two years with the option of a third and am just looking forward to the new challenge and meeting up with my old manager once more.

"I'm delighted with the new move. Obviously, the manager at Sunderland made it clear that I was getting on in age. I needed to look after myself and fortunately, I did that. It's a new chapter in my career that I'm looking forward to."

Edwards, who cost the Blues a fee which will eventually rise to £1.35 million, is likely to win his 75th and 76th full caps when Trinidad and Tobago play Honduras and the US in World Cup qualifiers on Saturday and Wednesday of next week.

WTF?????? Getting on in age...????? Look after myself.....??????

Does this mean we have offered better wages than Sunderland...??? And if so.....that the reason he has joined..?!?!?

Bizarre thing to say.....IMO

maxi I think he was reffering to contract length, his contract at Sunderland was out at the end of the season and he would then be 31-year-old free agent

Maxi Jazz, I beleive when speaking of 'looking after himself' Carlos is referring to his physical condition rather than lining his wallet.

oh dear, i hope we dont pick what we want out of everyones statements, keane said when he joined us he has a challange on his hands, which imo means the team is shit, but is that what he meant, oh hang on, i think it was, lol, oh well, edwards is clearly meaning his condition in looking after himself, and not here for money, we couldnt match premiership wages, he has been promised 1st team football and at 30 is better than sitting in the reserves, he will be class, in keane we trust, xxx

Ok everyone...next home game everyone take a SAGE incense stick with them and burn it in the stands. It will get rid of all the negativity (the boo boys will even cheer the team) bring in positive thoughts and start getting out of this division at the right end of the table. Great signing by the way..............

Sounds like the issue was to do with contract length rather than money. Very understandable. 2 years with a view to a 3rd sounds reasonable.
