No Palace Move for Stead

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has ruled his club out of a move for Town striker Jon Stead. The Eagles, along with Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday, were linked with the 26-year-old prior to the closure of the transfer window last week.

Warnock says signing the Town striker even on loan would be beyond his club at the present time: "We can't afford Jon Stead. I don't think we will be doing anything this week but we are still on lookout for a striker with [Stern] John out until the end of October."

Prior to the transfer window closing, Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll said that wages would probably prevent his club from signing Stead, while the striker was reported to have been offered to Sheffield Wednesday as part of a swap deal involving defender Richard Wood.

I am afraid i have to admit that i am not a Stead fan. I feel that he did well in his initial first few games but since then it has not worked out for him. I thought he would be a decent arial presence but i do not feel that he is. He works hard for the team but i feel that a lot of huff and puff doesnt not always get results. I would lead Stead go out on loan for a couple of months, see if he can get amongst the goals and.. if he can great give him a second chance and if he can't then look to offload him in the summer.

I think that we should off load stead as he has not been showing his potential enough for a while now. I remember the first home game that he played for us where he turned his defender and left footed it into the far left hand corner like a prem striker. He has failed to show me that on any other occasion since. Our best strikers together are pablo and priskin or pablo and walters.

MACKEMYANK added 12:27 - Sep 9 I am wondering what is going on here. Jon Stead used to play for Sunderland where he scored something like 2 goals in 40 appearances and was frankly one of the worst players I have ever seen in a Sunderland shirt. Now, you Ipswich fans (or some of you) seem to like this bloke. Does this bloke have a twin or what?
