Smith Back After Break Monday, 2nd Nov 2009 13:10
Town boss Roy Keane says he hopes central defender Tommy Smith will be back in action after the international break which follows next Saturday’s game at Reading. Smith injured his hand in training towards the end of last week and missed Saturday’s victory over Derby.
Keane told the club site: "Tommy his hand in the last seconds of a practice match on Thursday.
"It was a nasty injury with two fingers dislocated and one of the bones coming through his hand, so we had to take him straight to hospital.
"He had the operation on the Thursday night and will be out for two or three weeks. It's a blow because he's being doing well for us. He's a tough lad though, and hopefully he will be back after the international break is over."

Looks great i must admit, but was very impressed with Delany at CB on Saturday and would like to see him at the back more than any other CB at the club at the moment, solid performance! Still, get well soon Smith, im sure you will have a long and successful career with the blues!

Get well soon Smiffy, you have been one of the few positives for me this season & I think will go on to be a top pro, just hope it's with Ipswich?

I wish him well, of course, but he's performances have hardly been inspired have they!? His mistakes have led directly led to goals conceded in recent matches, and still looks a long way off the solid CB we're after. Delaney looked good against Derby (as did Bruce), but were they really tested? They played with one up front for 75 minutes. The test will be when they're up against two quality strikers......

He is tough. He didn't realise he had injured his two fingers until after the match when he gestured goodnight to Keano!

Delaney played well at centre back. Not sure Smith is the answer, but in fairness to him, had a few good games, although that said, part of a defence that gifted the opposition goals.

i find it hard to agree with any of the critisism aimed at tommy, are u that short of memory to forget that he missed almost the whole of last season with a HORRIFIC injury? he is a young lad and has made mistakes, none of which any worse than Rio Ferdinand this season who is an experienced international and one of the best center halfs in the world, also he is a CB 100% and he played a few games at LB. this kid WILL be mustard, he has always given 100% whenever he has played and needs encouragement, iv seen alot of critical posts saying we dont give youth a chance anymore, well we have with tommy, and he deserves his chance, a great potential, a true pro and a blinding lad. get well soon tommy!

would like to see young ainsley get a chance at CB... his played there before i'm sure! i think delaney is lucky there isn't a few more left backs at the club otherwise he'd be struggling for a position!
