Wood Joins Coventry
Wood Joins Coventry
Wednesday, 18th Nov 2009 15:37

Sheffield Wednesday central defender Richard Wood has agreed to join Coventry City on a loan deal which will be made permanent in January. Town made a move for Wood in August and were believed to be monitoring the situation after the Osset-born defender was transfer-listed by the Owls.

Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman, who is understood to have paid £500,000 for the 24-year-old, said: I'm delighted to get Richard, who I have admired and targeted ever since I came back from Spain.

"I know there's been a lot of interest in him from other clubs, so it's great news that he's decided to sign for us and I'm very looking forward to working with him."

Maybe a bit disappointing but also a blessing, Delaney has proved he is useful in the middle, Tommy Smith is now back and after speaking to a Wednesday fan they tell me he is a solid but consistancy is a problem for the lad, so I'm not that bothered. KEANEOOOOOOOO!!

perhaps he prefered to keep up north, and the money was right.

I honestly don't know if he's any good or not, but there do seem to be many people who contribute here who seem to assume that every player that we fail to sign (did we try?) is a footballing god.

Average championship centre half by all accounts from owls friends, like muhren said, solid player but half a million quid and reported £20k a week, as my school report used to say "could do better"..

That' a bit annoying. Thought he could have been a good addition. Oh well, I read that Jonny Evans' younger brother Corry is looking for a club to go out on loan to. If Keane wants another defender then this guy's an option (if he's as good as Jonny anyway) Surely he only needs to ask and Fergie will say yes?

shame but like someone else said maybe a blessing.
it sounded like wood thinks he is the best ever defender and should be the biggest earner at any club so maybe would have upset the rest of the squad.
personally i dont think keane attempted to sign him after his agents comments

A few weeks ago I would have been gutted by this news but we now have no less than 4 centre halves who are all starting to show a bit of form in McAuley, Smith, Bruce & Delaney. And with Pim & Troy Brown waiting in the wings as well why on earth would we want to pay through the nose for somebody who is no better than what we already have and seems to think he is worthy of a chunky contract to boot! The only reason he's left the Owls is because they wouldn't meet his extortionate pay demands.

Shows how far we've tumbled since Keane arrived that he'd choose Coventry over us.......sad, so sad.

It's strange how Devontractorboy and others such as myself can get slated for stating facts. Just shows the Keanites live in cloud cuckoo land.

Not surprising, we're in the relegation zone, coventry are not, and we have an idiot of a manager who no one likes, and therefore can't attract players to come to ipswich.

Yeah, Ipswich never struggled in this League until Keane came along. Why doesn't he depart and spend time with those that want him - like his dogs.

its a sad time we find ourselves in, mutiny between the keanites and the keanouts!, i stand somewhere in between, but the facts that we have spent more than at anytime, have won once in 16 and are in the relegation zone are deeply worrying!

im not too bothered about this to be honest, yes hes a good player, and spoken highly of by wednesday fans, however i dont feel like he is the sort of player that will take us to the next level. the fact that he has gone to a team like coventry sort of says it all, they aint going anywhere anytime soon. a lot of you will say, well neither are we, but despite our current league position i believe we are in a much better situation to push on. we need top class players like edwards, leadbitter and rosenior to join and to move us up...richard wood isnt in that class of player.

keep the faith guys, good things come to those who wait, and boy have we waited!!
