Wood Joins Coventry Wednesday, 18th Nov 2009 15:37
Sheffield Wednesday central defender Richard Wood has agreed to join Coventry City on a loan deal which will be made permanent in January. Town made a move for Wood in August and were believed to be monitoring the situation after the Osset-born defender was transfer-listed by the Owls.
Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman, who is understood to have paid £500,000 for the 24-year-old, said: I'm delighted to get Richard, who I have admired and targeted ever since I came back from Spain.
"I know there's been a lot of interest in him from other clubs, so it's great news that he's decided to sign for us and I'm very looking forward to working with him."

He was after a whole stack of cash. Don't think we should pay over the odds for a player of debatable quality.

Listen Keano is getting rid of all the dead 'wood ' why bring another one in ...Yes it may be hard for Keane to attract players , but , there are some who will react to him . I know that Walters enjoys playing for him and the brief period that Norris played he looked pretty commited . Wood is on big wedge , we have some players as good in the same position Oh and cant let the comment go about Fergie 'doing us a favour with Cory Evans' Look at the last 'favour ' he did us ... er Lee Martin .. we assume Fergie likes Keane ? Love it 3 points Saturday - Mid Table at Xmas and play offs in March ...

What a surprise...how many weeks ago is it now that "Keano" wanted to bring in a couple of players most importantly a defender..6 weeks..7..8..? The sooner he's out of here the sooner his massive weight will be lifted off of this club's shoulders and we can get on with being "Ipswich Town FC" again rather than "Roy Keane's (disastrous) Ipswich".

To all those saying Wood is not a good player, then why has Keane been following him ? And tried to sign him before the deadline ? Are you doubting Keanes judgement on players ?

I have no doubt he is a good player, I have mixed feelings about RK signings so far, but to be honest surco my point is would he be any better than what we have here with the added cost of half a million quid and a reported £20k a week salary?? I'm just getting frustrated by all these players getting linked and if we dont get them then its suddenly a travesty and Keano's fault, Its pathetic.

To be fair to Keane he has brought in a couple of half decent players in his 8 months : Rosenior,Leadbitter & Edwards and we do have a pretty good squad by championship standards...now if only we had a good manager to get them playing...just imagine what Burley,Royle,Boothroyd or Curbishley could do with this lot. I'm expecting 3 points this saturday Roy..you've had more than enough time and 3 big international breaks already this season to sort our team and your tactics out...If you can't start delivering what we want - namely attractive football and the odd win here and there - then do the decent thing , GO & leave someone else capable of doing the job.

the only good thing about this is that he's not playing against us on Saturday!

This is a big miss.........again!!! Looks like we will continue to pay over the odds for players that nobody else wants and make so little difference such as Delaney, Priskin, Martin, Colback, Edwards, etc............and sell promising youngsters such as Rhodes. Is Keane an attraction or does he frighten players away??

Shame, but Coventry is nearer to Sheffield than Ipswich.
